You can't expect multiple dogs to do anything together that they can't do individually.
When a dog is trying to deal with a fearful situation, their brain literally can't focus on what you just said. They are trying to diffuse the danger.
Dogs aren't mind readers. You have to tell them what you want with specifics. Example: Tell your dog to sit before they can jump on you.
If your dog is repeating a behavior you're trying to eliminate, find out who or what is reinforcing this behavior. Is it a family member, another dog or inconsistency? Example: Is someone feeding your dog at the dinner table?
If you want the dog to be calm when you greet them, you need to set the tone. Excited behavior on your part, creates over-excited behavior from the dog. Be calm and walk away if the dog is uncontrollable. Don't give up. They will learn.
A fluent skill has been practiced in many different locations and contexts. If the skill isn't fluent, the dog will only do it under limited circumstances. If they will only sit next to their food dish, that's not fluent. Add a variety of situations to your training.
Body Language is the dog's main means of communication. If we ignore these signals we might be building aggression. Watch This Video
